THE THREE FOXES IS A SMALL-SCALE WINERY SET UP IN 2004 BY THREE YOUNG SOUTH AFRICAN FRIENDS. THEIR FOCUS IS MAKING SMALL PARCELS OF OUTSTANDING WINE (NOT MORE THAN 2000 BOTTLES PER VINTAGE) FROM GRAPES SOURCED FROM THE MOST EXCITING VINEYARDS AROUND THE CAPE.
Our Vision

The Three Foxes is a small-scale winery set up in 2004 by three young South African friends. Our focus is making small parcels of outstanding wine (not more than 2000 bottles per vintage) from grapes sourced from the most exciting vineyards around the Cape.

We spend a lot of time scouring the winelands, searching out special parcels of vines, and working closely with the grape growers. This approach gives us the freedom to keep fresh, dynamic and interesting, as we are not tied to specific vineyard plots, but quality is ensured by our interactive working relationship with the growers.

To make sure the vineyards express themselves in the wine, the vinification is completely minimalistic, and apart from minimal levels of sulphur, nothing else is added – no yeasts, acids, enzymes, tannins, etc are used, and the wines are matured in only French oak barrels, with very little new wood. To preserve the true character of the wines, they are bottled unfiltered and unfined.

The idea is to always be fresh and interesting, and never to get caught up in the stiff, glass-swirling, nonsense-talking pompousness that is such a part of the wine world today.

To keep dynamic and interesting, the wines are mostly blends, and the composition changes from vintage to vintage. A cuvee name that conveys the personality of the blend is given to each different wine. Packaging is kept clean, precise and uncomplicated, emphasising the importance we place on what’s inside the bottle.

Who are The Three Foxes

Chris Mullineux
Chris is our man on the ground, hard at work on his farmers tan in the vineyard and his barrel rolling skills in the cellar. His day job is at Mullineux Family Wines, where he makes wine together with his wife, Andrea. Chris has worked at some of the top cellars in South Africa, as well as Southern France. He is based in the town of Riebeek Kasteel in the Swartland, an area perfectly suited to the cultivation of Mediterranean varieties, and the region we source our grapes from.

Olivier Schildt
Olivier runs a branding and design agency in Johannesburg. His experience in branding and marketing has garnered The Three Foxes with a marketing arm that allows it to pursue unconventional and refreshing branding solutions. A graphic designer by education and practice, he finds great inspiration and strategic solutions for The Three Foxes that will sculpt it's cult status both in presence and expectation. His experience of a great glass of wine was partly the fault of Chris and Pascal (his brother). They introduced him to the pleasures of wine on a visit to Stellenbosch many years ago.

Pascal Schildt
Pascal's love for wine was kindled before he embarked his studies at Stellenbosch University. There his passion for beautifully crafted wines flourished. In 2001 he moved to France to further his love and knowledge for great wines. After working in Bordeaux he moved to Burgundy to continue his studies in international wine commerce. There he also became intimately involved in the making of wine. Pascal is 29 years old and currently an import/export wine manager in the Rhône Valley (southern France).
